The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has approved Adani Power's ₹4,000 crore acquisition of Vidarbha Industries Power, a decision issued on January 21, 2026. This ruling, under case number 123/2026, comes as corporate acquisitions in the energy sector face increased scrutiny.
NCLAT's order underscores the importance of regulatory compliance under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). Justice Ashok Bhushan, leading the bench, remarked, "This acquisition is crucial for enhancing operational efficiencies and ensuring a sustainable energy supply. It will stabilize Adani Power's portfolio and contribute to the power sector's overall health. The transaction aligns with IBC objectives, facilitating quicker resolutions for distressed assets."
