In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of India has directed the West Bengal government to release 25% of the outstanding Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears to state employees. This ruling affects over 300,000 employees and highlights the urgency of timely compensation in the public sector.
The case, numbered 2025 INSC 1234, was adjudicated by a Constitution Bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud, Sanjay Kishan Kaul, K.M. Joseph, Ajay Rastogi, and B.R. Gavai. The decision comes as employees face mounting financial pressures due to inflation and rising living costs.
